Hastings- It was a record setting performance from the West squad on Saturday as they dominated the East 51-0 in the 49th annual Sertoma eight man all star football game in Hastings. The West jumped out to a 30-0 lead at halftime and was never threatened after that. It was just a 6-0 lead heading into the second quarter before quarterback Gage Hedstrom of St. Mary’s would fire touchdown passes of nine yards to Brennan Linder of Pleasanton, and 35 yards to Maurice Robinson of Sandhills-Thedford.
Hedstrom’s first td of the game went to Thomas Donley of Wilcox-Hildreth from 37 yards out on the second possession of the day. Along with adding a safety the West also scored on a four yard burst from Ethan Latta of Dundy County Stratton to have a commanding lead at the break. In the second half, the West would score all three times they had the ball with two touchdown runs from Hedstrom and a late six yard score from Linder.
Hedstrom rushed 27 times for 122 yards and passed for another 272 yards and three scores which tied the record for most in the history of the game. Linder had five catches for 73 yards, Tucker Biskup of Alma caught three passes for 76 yards. In all the West racked up 592 yards of offense. Hedstrom was named the west offensive MVP, while Cauy Meyer of Loomis was named the defensive MVP as it was just the fourth shutout in the history of the game. The East as led by Wynot receiver Kotner Koch who had 6 catches for 92 yards and was the East offensive MVP. Tucker Bickford of Weeping Water was the defensive MVP. The margin of victory for the West was also the most in the history of the game.
