Kansas City Barbeque Society-Sanctioned Event to Bring Top Pitmasters, Visitors, and Economic Impact to Western Nebraska Region.
North Platte will host barbecue teams and visitors from across the Midwest this fall during the inaugural Sandhills Smoke Show BBQ Competition, scheduled for September 25th and 26th at Pals Brewing Company. The Kansas City Barbeque Society-sanctioned event will feature elite pitmasters competing in brisket, pork, ribs, and chicken, with teams earning points toward national rankings while vying for prize money and championship honors. Organized in partnership with Visit North Platte, Pals Brewing Company, and Airstream Ventures, the competition is expected to draw certified judges, local residents, and traveling spectators to the community.
Local tourism leaders say the event highlights North Platte’s growing role as a destination for major events and regional tourism. Organizers anticipate increased overnight stays, restaurant traffic, and overall economic activity as competitors and visitors travel in for the weekend. Officials with both Visit North Platte and the Kansas City Barbeque Society say the competition will not only showcase top-tier barbecue talent but also help strengthen the city’s reputation for hosting large-scale events that bring economic and community benefits.
