GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — A Grand Island man was arrested Wednesday morning following a child sexual assault investigation that police say began about two months ago.
James Speer, 53, was taken into custody at 9:21 a.m. June 25, while officers were executing a search warrant at his apartment on West Second Street.
Grand Island Police Division Chief Dean Elliott said the investigation started after a 13-year-old girl reported that Speer had sexual contact with her. Police said Speer and the girl are related.
According to investigators, the alleged assaults may have occurred over a period of up to nine years and took place in Grand Island and in other states.
Speer was arrested on suspicion of felony first-degree sexual assault of a child, felony third-degree sexual assault of a child, felony first-offense resisting arrest, and misdemeanor obstruction of a police officer.
