A former University of Nebraska-Lincoln wrestler is facing multiple charges after allegedly leading the Nebraska State Patrol on a high-speed pursuit in western Nebraska Friday night. Authorities say Albert Ferrari, 24, was driving a Chevrolet Corvette on Interstate 80 near North Platte when a trooper observed the vehicle speeding. The trooper clocked the Corvette traveling more than 110 miles per hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone after it exited the interstate and headed toward Highway 30. According to the Nebraska State Patrol, Ferrari refused to stop and fled west on Highway 30 before turning north onto Highway 83.
Investigators say the pursuit lasted about 11 minutes before the driver stopped the vehicle and fled on foot. Troopers located identifying information inside the Corvette, and Ferrari was found Saturday morning and booked into the Lincoln County Jail. He faces charges including flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, and obstruction. Ferrari, a former Husker wrestler, has had previous encounters with law enforcement. Nebraska State Patrol officials say no injuries were reported during the pursuit.
There was also another pursuit on Friday.
At approximately 10:40 a.m. Friday, a trooper attempted a traffic stop in Thayer County, near Bruning on County Road 6300. The vehicle, a Chevrolet Malibu, was associated with a suspect who had an active arrest warrant. The driver refused to stop and fled northbound, causing a pursuit to ensue.
The pursuit continued for several miles on country roads before the driver turned westbound on Highway 4. The driver then turned into a driveway and attempted to flee on foot. Troopers caught up with the suspect, but the suspect resisted arrest. He was then taken into custody. The driver, Kevin Dunn, 46, of rural Thayer County, was arrested for willful reckless driving, flight to avoid arrest, obstruction, resisting arrest, and traffic violations.
