SUMNER, NE – Sumner’s Annual 3rd and 4th of July Celebration features many of their traditional activities along with lots of new ones this holiday weekend.
Last weekend was the start of the annual event with the sand volleyball and cornhole tournaments on Saturday, toad and turtle races and the crowning of Little Miss and Mister Sumner on Sunday.
Sumner Commercial Club member Olivia Claflin says Adaline Miller was crowned Little Miss Sumner, while Miles Claflin was crowned Little Mister Sumner.
This Thursday, July 2nd kicks things off again with the Sumner Saddle Club Rodeo Calcutta at 7:30pm and a free will donation dinner taking place at the Sumner Community Hall.
Friday, July 3rd starts at 5:30 pm with the S-E-M Alumni Banquet, 7:30 pm is night one of the rodeo, then the street dance at 9:30 pm at Tub’s Pub featuring Borderline.

As Claflin said, new this year is the Sumner Volunteer Fire Department breakfast from 8 am to 10:30 am. Snag some breakfast when you find your prime parade spot along this year’s route.
Also new this year is the Hot Dog Eating Contest at the park starting at 5 pm.
Those interested in participating in the hot dog eating contest can sign up the day of the event or call Sara Scoville at 308-380-0423.
The Flatbed All Stars will take the stage at the park during the hot dog buffet, before everyone moves to the baseball field for fireworks at dusk.
