A Loup City man has died following a crash involving a bicycle and a pickup truck Sunday morning just outside of Loup City.
According to the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office, 911 Dispatch, and Region 26 Emergency Management received a report of an injury accident at approximately 9:56 a.m. on July 5, 2026. The crash happened on Highway 58/92 near the south junction.
Authorities said Loup City-Ashton-Rockville Cooperative Ambulance Squad, the Loup City Fire Department, and the Sherman County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the scene.
When responders arrived, they found a bicyclist in the south ditch of the highway after he had been struck by a pickup. The bicyclist was transported by Loup City Rescue and LifeNet to Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
The bicyclist was identified as 71-year-old Jan Markham of Loup City. Authorities said Markham later passed away on July 5. Next of kin have been notified.
The driver of the pickup was identified as 21-year-old Jacob Kuszak of Loup City.
The crash remains under investigation with assistance from the Nebraska State Patrol.
