Lincoln, Neb. — On Tuesday, Governor Jim Pillen will announce Nebraska’s Workforce Pell Grant Program – one of the first to launch in the United States.
The program is a first-of-its-kind federal initiative providing Pell Grant funding for accredited, short-term programs designed to lead directly to employment in high-skill, high-wage, and in-demand careers across the state.
Metropolitan Community College in Omaha, the first institution to establish Workforce Pell programs, will serve as the host location for the news conference, which will include leadership from the Nebraska Department of Labor and the Nebraska Department of Corrections.
The briefing will be held at 2:00 p.m. CT at Metro Community College – Fort Omaha Campus, Construction Education Center (Building 25)
Participants will include Gov. Pillen; Labor Commissioner Katie Thurber; Director Rob Jeffreys, Department of Corrections; & President Randy Schmailzl, Metro Community College.
