LEXINGTON, NE – The Dawson County Fair is slated for Wednesday, July 15th, through Sunday, July 19th, with the theme “America’s 250th: Past, Present, & Possibilities”.
All five days of the fair features a full schedule with lots to do for all ages.
Things kick off right away on Wednesday with 4-H and FFA events. Sarah Fanning, Dawson County 4-H Extension Educator, gives a rundown of events for 4-H and FFA for the entire fair.
The market livestock premium auction is Saturday, at 5pm. Fanning explains how the premium auction works and how it will benefit Dawson County 4-H youth.
Among the many 4-H and FFA events, the 4-H Café is open each day of the fair.
Other events during the fair include the Platte Valley Auto Rodeo on Friday and Saturday starting at 8pm. Tickets to the rodeo are $12 for adults, $5 for 6-12 years, and 5 & under are free. Rodeo tickets also include a free pork BBQ meal.
All five days of the fair will feature Moore’s Greater Shows carnival, a staple for the Dawson County Fair. On Wednesday only for the carnival, you can receive $5 off a $35 armband when you bring 2 cans of food for family night.
Thurday morning is the sensory-friendly event from 10am to noon. The morning is specially designed for individuals with special needs and their families to revel the excitement of the carnival and other fun activities in a sensory-friendly environment such as dimmed lights, lower noise levels, mobility assistance, and a calming space.
There are multiple opportunities to enjoy live music and entertainment on two different stages on the Dawson County Fairgrounds. The Sundown Stage is located near the commercial building, and the Silver Fox Stage will be in the beer garden.
Live music for the Sundown Stage includes: the KTTN Band at 8pm Wednesday and Thursday, DJ Lopez at 9pm Friday, and DJ Patrick at 8pm Saturday. For the Silver Fox Stage: Casey Chytka at 9pm Thursday, Punching Pandas 10pm Friday, and Nate Keim at 10pm Saturday.
