GRAND ISLAND, Neb. — A search of several electronic devices led to the arrest of a Grand Island man accused of possessing sexually explicit, artificially generated images depicting a minor.
Grand Island police arrested 37-year-old Brian Faling on Thursday at the Hall County Courthouse. He was later booked into the Hall County Jail on a charge of possession of child sexual abuse material.
According to an arrest affidavit, investigators searched Faling’s cellphone, laptop, tablet, and smartwatch after obtaining a warrant. Officers allegedly located sexually explicit images that appeared to have been generated using artificial intelligence.
The search followed a report made to the police by a minor girl on June 4. The girl told investigators that Faling had AI-generated sexual images of her and had displayed them to other people, the affidavit states.
Court records indicate Faling provided different explanations about how he obtained the images. The girl told police that when she confronted him, Faling claimed an unknown person had sent them. Faling later allegedly told officers that his former wife sent the images through encrypted applications.
The charge is an allegation, and Faling is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
