LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska High School Rodeo Queen Audrabell Werth of Hyannis is representing the Cornhusker State this week at the National High School Finals Rodeo in Lincoln, where she is competing for the national queen title while welcoming thousands of contestants from across the country.
Werth, 15, has been involved in rodeo since she was three years old and competes in goat tying, pole bending, barrel racing and cutting.
“My favorite event that I compete in is cutting,” Werth said. “My cutting career have been a little hard, but I love cutting.”
As Nebraska’s rodeo queen, Werth is competing in horsemanship, interviews, impromptu speaking and modeling as part of the national queen contest.
“I think it would be really cool to represent Nebraska,” Werth said. “Nebraska hasn’t had a queen in 60 years, so it’s been a while. It’s time to bring it back to Nebraska.”
Werth said one of her favorite parts of the week has been meeting fellow state queens from across the country.
“I have met 42 other girls in the past week,” she said. “We’re kind of, as a group, a lot of times we just travel in a pack.”
When she’s not competing, Werth stays busy helping at her family’s veterinary clinic in Hyannis, attending wrestling practice and traveling to rodeos.
The National High School Finals Rodeo continues through Saturday at the Sandhills Global Event Center in Lincoln.
