A North Platte man has been accused in the death of his infant daughter.
Lincoln County Court records say 23-year-old Devin Petty is charged with Negligent Child Abuse Resulting in Death.
An arrest affidavit says on March 9th, authorities responded to the Super 8 Motel in North Platte regarding a four-month-old baby not breathing.
The baby was taken to Great Plains Health before being transported to Children’s Hospital in Omaha, where she passed away.
According to the affidavit, Petty told authorities that he had placed the baby on her stomach before falling asleep on the same bed.
The child’s mother entered the room approximately 45 minutes later and discovered the baby was not breathing.
Court records say on July 14th, the autopsy results for the baby listed the cause of death as probable suffocation from being set in a prone position and co-sleeping.
Authorities noted that the motel room was also extremely dirty; the room had a foul stench, multiple dogs were being kept in the bathroom which was covered in feces and urine, and old food was on the countertops.
Court records say marijuana paraphernalia was also located inside the baby supplies bag.
On July 17th, Petty was arrested for the crime, and was later arraigned on the charge on Monday.
His bond has been set at 10% of $150,000 and he is due back in court on July 30th.
