LINCOLN, NEBRASKA — Former State Senator Brett Lindstrom today filed 5,735 petition signatures with the Nebraska Secretary of State’s Office, completing the final requirement to place his name on the November 3rd ballot as a nonpartisan candidate for Governor.
Nebraska law requires nonpartisan candidates for statewide office to submit at least 4,000 valid signatures — including a minimum of 750 from each of the state’s three congressional districts — by the August 3rd deadline.
“Nebraskans signed these petitions because they know something is wrong and they’re tired of being told everything is fine,” Lindstrom said. “In three and a half years, this administration has spent through a historic cash reserve, raided cash funds, and made billions in commitments with no sustainable way to pay for them. Now Nebraskans are being handed the bill.”
Lindstrom, 45, of Omaha, served in the Legislature from 2015 to 2023 representing District 18. He is joined on the ticket by lieutenant governor candidate Mike Picard of Omaha, a Navy veteran and director of ENVY Volleyball Club.
The campaign is built around the Nebraska Doctrine, a governing framework centered on restoring fiscal discipline, prioritizing economic growth over government growth, and returning to the principle that recurring spending must be backed by recurring revenue.
“This isn’t a protest campaign and it isn’t about pulling votes from anyone,” Lindstrom said. “Neither party is willing to tell Nebraskans the truth. You cannot cut your way to prosperity, and you cannot spend your way to growth. Nebraska doesn’t just have a budget problem — we have a leadership problem. Nebraska’s future is still ours to shape and the time to change course is now.”
