LEXINGTON — The Nebraska Junior High School Rodeo Association opened its 2026–27 season with two days of competition Saturday and Sunday, August 1 and 2, at the Dawson County Fairgrounds in Lexington.
Official standings following the opening weekend have Kolin Schrunk leading the boys’ all-around race with 60 points. Quinten Quintana is second with 55, while Elm Creek’s Trey Barnett is third with 43 points.
Thedford competitor Gavin Connell also opened the season inside the top 10. Connell is eighth in the boys’ all-around standings with 27 points.
Elm Creek’s Bentley Barnett leads the girls’ all-around standings with 48 points. Georgie Potter is second with 41, followed by Neligh Robinson with 36 and Brecken Cover with 32.
Barnett also leads the girls goat tying standings with 20 points. Robinson is second with 16, while Potter is third with 14.
In team roping, Colt Bauer, Trey Barnett, Crayton Schmidt, and Bentley Barnett each collected 10 points during the Lexington weekend. Abagail Cole, Oakley Bridgman, Kennedy Hoffman, and Jonathan Cole each have nine points.
Brinley Bachman leads the light rifle standings with 10 points. Brayden Fink is second with nine, while Caleb Riha is third with eight points.
The Nebraska Junior High Rodeo Association will remain in the KBEAR coverage area this weekend, with the next two performances scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, August 8 and 9, at the Thomas County Fairgrounds in Thedford.
Nebraska’s Roughest Rodeo was also held Sunday night in Stockville as part of the Frontier County Fair. The sanctioned performance included bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, and bull riding, with $4,500 in total added money.
Official winners and scores from Stockville had not been published by the International Professional Rodeo Association or Mid-States Rodeo Association as of Wednesday morning.
