BROKEN BOW — The Broken Bow City Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday on proposed regulations for automated license plate reader cameras, one of several major items on the council’s Aug. 11 agenda.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Broken Bow Municipal Building, 314 South 10th Avenue.
The council will consider Ordinance 1315, which would prohibit the installation, operation, or maintenance of Flock-style automated license plate readers and similar networked vehicle monitoring equipment inside city limits without prior written approval from the City Council. The proposed ordinance cites privacy concerns surrounding the collection and storage of license plate, vehicle, and movement data.
Anyone seeking to operate such a system would be required to apply to the city and go through a public hearing. The council could consider public-safety benefits, privacy impacts, data-security practices, and other factors before approving or denying a request. Violations could carry fines of up to $500 per offense.
The council will also hold public hearings on Ordinance 1316, which would establish regulations for cottage developments, tiny homes, and accessory dwelling units, and Ordinance 1317, which would create zoning and performance standards for data centers and digital asset mining operations.
Other agenda items include approval of the city’s one- and six-year street plan, the sale of surplus city property, a proposed three-percent wage increase and three-percent cost-of-living adjustment for employees covered by the city’s IBEW agreement, setting a date for the 2026-27 budget hearing, and consideration of revisions to City Administrator David Schmidt’s employment contract.
