A Florida man was killed Saturday night in a crash involving two semi-trucks on Interstate 80 near Brady.
According to the Nebraska State Patrol, troopers were dispatched at approximately 9:20 p.m. to a reported semi-truck fire on westbound I-80 near mile marker 198. When troopers arrived, they discovered a collision between a fully engulfed semi and a second semi pulling a flat-bed trailer.
Investigators say the flat-bed trailer had been parked on the shoulder and was in the process of merging back into the driving lane when it was struck by the other semi.The driver of the second semi, a man from Florida, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi pulling the flat-bed trailer was not injured.
The Nebraska State Patrol is conducting a full crash reconstruction and post-crash commercial vehicle investigation. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Maxwell and Brady Volunteer Fire Departments, North Platte Police Department, Ron’s Towing, and the Nebraska Department of Roads.
The crash forced the closure of westbound Interstate 80 between Gothenburg and North Platte for more than six hours while emergency crews worked at the scene and investigators gathered evidence.
