For the second time in a week, Valley County is recovering from severe thunderstorms that caused significant damage.
The National Weather Service in Hastings issued a tornado warning for Valley and Greeley counties at 9:07PM, including Elyria and Ord. The storm produced gusts up to 90 mph at the Nebraska Mesonet site near Ord. The winds caused significant damage in the Ord and Burwell areas.
Loup Valleys Rural Public Power District, which estimated that almost $600,000 in damage was done between the Arcadia and North Loup areas from last Wednesday’s storms, reported that they were aware of several power outages between Burwell and Ord. In the city of Ord, residents were asked to stay inside as crews worked to restore power and assess damage in the town.
Ord Public Schools and St. Mary’s Catholic School will now have their first day of school on Wednesday with a 1PM dismissal. Both school systems will be closed tomorrow to assess storm damage.
Last week, Southern Valley County had winds up to 80 miles per hour rip through Arcadia and North Loup, causing significant damage in both communities and the area between them.
