A new bench at North Park Elementary is providing a place for students and their Teammates mentors to connect, talk, and build relationships.
Broken Bow Teammates recently unveiled the bench, which was custom-made by Shawn Racicky. The bench serves as a designated place for Teammates’ buddies to meet, wait for one another, and spend time together.
Teammates is focused on building consistent, meaningful relationships between mentors and students. Mentors get to know their mentees, stay involved in their lives, and provide a consistent presence by showing up and listening.
Jessica Kirkpatrick and Betsy Smith are involved with the Broken Bow Teammates program, which pairs adult mentors with students from third grade through 12th grade. Students can also remain involved through post-secondary education by submitting a new application to continue their match.
Teammates’ mentors are expected to meet with their mentees at least 24 times each year, emphasizing the importance of consistency and continued involvement.
The local Teammates program has also been involved in community events, including the North Park Elementary open house and the bike rally, providing opportunities to promote the program and encourage more community members to get involved.
