LEXINGTON, Neb. — The Nebraska High School Rodeo season continued with its second weekend of competition Saturday and Sunday in Lexington, where several contestants collected multiple event victories and all-around honors.
Stetson Sweley led Saturday’s boys competition, winning the all-around title with 313.20 points. Sweley captured bull riding with a 73-point ride and added a saddle bronc victory with 62 points.
Colby Holm finished second in the boys all-around standings with 288.60 points. Holm teamed with Jacob Wilson to win team roping in 9.62 seconds and placed fourth in steer wrestling.
Kelstyn Lindner placed third in the all-around after winning bareback riding with 60 points and finishing second in bull riding.
Charley Hoier swept two events to claim Saturday’s girls all-around championship with 397.30 points. Hoier won breakaway roping in 2.06 seconds and goat tying in 7.97 seconds.
Aubree Shrewsbury finished second in the girls all-around after placing second in goat tying and pole bending. Tomi Reid took third following a runner-up finish in breakaway roping and a third-place showing in goat tying.
Saturday’s timed-event winners also included Burr Underwood in tie-down roping at 10.53 seconds and Erich Dybdal in steer wrestling at 5.51 seconds.
Annie Hawkins completed the pole bending pattern in 20.710 seconds to earn the victory, while Macradee Lantis won barrel racing in 17.526 seconds. Maci Herrington finished second in barrel racing and fourth in pole bending.
In the shooting events, Case Shane won trap shooting with a score of 48. Karsyn Chesley took the light rifle competition with 307 points.
Competition resumed Sunday with Truett McIntyre taking the boys all-around title. McIntyre scored 272.25 points after teaming with Dalton Dugan to win team roping in 6.21 seconds and placing fifth in tie-down roping.
Underwood finished second in Sunday’s boys all-around standings. He won tie-down roping for the second consecutive day, improving his time to 9.37 seconds, and teamed with Aubree Shrewsbury for sixth in team roping.
Cotter Johnston turned in the weekend’s fastest steer wrestling time, winning Sunday’s competition in 4.57 seconds. Lindner also completed a weekend sweep in bareback riding, scoring 66 points Sunday after winning the event Saturday.
Sunday’s girls all-around race featured three contestants topping 400 points. Hawkins claimed the title with 430.70 points after placing second in pole bending, third in goat tying and third in breakaway roping.
Herrington finished second with 416.60 points. She won pole bending in 20.612 seconds while placing fourth in both barrel racing and breakaway roping.
Kinsey Walz earned 405.20 points to finish third. Walz won breakaway roping in 2.72 seconds and added third-place finishes in goat tying and pole bending.
Allyx Forre won Sunday’s goat tying competition in 7.45 seconds. Lantis earned her second barrel racing victory of the weekend with a time of 17.590 seconds.
Chesley also swept the light rifle competition, increasing her winning score to 313 points Sunday. Holt Shane and Kade Herfel shared the trap shooting victory with scores of 46.
The Lexington competition followed the season-opening weekend in Bassett as Nebraska’s high school rodeo contestants continued building points toward the season standings.
