Following today’s Nebraska Supreme Court ruling allowing the formation of the Nebraska Working People Party and the America First Party, Secretary Evnen issued certifications establishing both new political parties in Nebraska.
Nebraskans may begin registering with either new political party beginning today. The newly updated voter registration form may be found on the Nebraska Secretary of State website at https://ne.gov/go/voterforms.
Voters may also register to vote at their local election office or online.
The new political parties may nominate candidates for the November 3, 2026, general election ballot. In order to qualify for the ballot, candidates will be required, at the time of filing, to:
- Be nominated by a state convention of the political party and provide the certification from the chairperson and secretary of the convention (Neb. Rev. Stat. §32-710)
- Submit a petition of nomination signed by 25 registered voters of the party in the appropriate jurisdiction (Neb. Rev. Stat. §32-621)
- Complete a candidate filing form for the office (Neb. Rev. Stat. §32-621)
- Pay the applicable candidate filing fee (Neb. Rev. Stat. §32-621)
- Submit all of these materials to the applicable filing officer by 5 p.m. on September 1st, 2026 (Neb. Rev. Stat. §32-621)
New political parties may only nominate one candidate per open position for any applicable partisan office.
The official party order on the ballot will be the Republican Party, Democratic Party, Libertarian Party, Legal Marijuana NOW Party, Nebraska Working People Party, and the America First Party.
