Lincoln, Neb. — With election day coming up November 3rd, the Nebraska Department of Transportation is reminding residents that campaign signs cannot be placed on state highway or interstate right-of-way.
That includes areas like intersections, medians, highway entrance and exit ramps, sidewalks, ditches, and other state right-of-way along the road.
NDOT says its crews will remove signs that are improperly placed. Those signs will be kept for a short time at local maintenance yards, where the owners can pick them up.
NDOT also reminds residents that counties and cities may have their own rules about where campaign signs can be placed and how large they can be. Violating those local rules could result in a fine.
If you’re not sure whether a particular location is within state right-of-way, or you have questions about sign permits, you can contact NDOT’s Right-of-Way Division at 402-479-4463.
