Lexington, Neb. — The fall hydrocycling period at the Johnson Number Two Hydroplant, south of Lexington, begins Saturday, October 17 and continues through November 10.
The Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District says water levels at Johnson Lake could fluctuate by as much as two feet during the process.
Hydrocycling involves adjusting operations to minimize changes in the rate of water flowing into the Platte River. The process takes place each spring and fall under an agreement with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The district also plans to lower Johnson Lake by approximately three feet around Thanksgiving weekend to allow crews to replace the Phelps Canal head gate downstream of the hydroplant.
Lake levels are expected to return to normal operating levels by mid-December.
