Lexington, NE – Nebraska voters largely stayed the course in Tuesday’s General Election, with Republicans winning the state’s top races and maintaining their hold on statewide offices.
Incumbent Governor Jim Pillen won reelection with 51 percent of the vote to 42 percent for Democratic Challenger Lynne Walz.
Gov. Jim Pillen declared victory in a late, election night speech to supporters saying, “Everyone in this incredible state chose a vision of Nebraska’s future that believes in lower taxes, smaller government, the rule of the law, and standing up for our values.” He continued, “You chose a leader, not a politician, and I will never forget that trust.”
Pillen, who was first elected governor in 2022, defeated Democratic challenger Lynne Walz in a closely watched race for Nebraska’s highest office.
Before becoming governor in January 2023, Pillen served on the University of Nebraska Board of Regents and built a major agricultural business, Pillen Family Farms, based in Columbus.
His victory secures another four years in the Governor’s Office, with his second term extending through January 2031.
